I drew this guy way back when I was going to SFU. He was taking up one of the pages of my notes. Found him the other day and thought, I've been meaning to colour this. So I've been taking a whole bunch of my old sketches and practicing my colouring techniques. Drawn on paper, coloured in ProCreate.
Here is some back story... So this guy lived in the pages of my class notes during my time at Capilano College. He was literally on every page. He is also the character I still draw the most, SO when I started doing 3D I promised myself, the first character model I would create by myself would be him. So since I have had some extra time to practice my modeling, as I complete my first human body, I am also working on my character! He will be more stylized than the human model as he has to look the reference, but he still needs to be anatomically correct. He still has some bumps and grooves that I need to smooth out, as well as modeling his hands and face. BUT I'm really excited that I am finally able to work on him :)
First time I have ever modeled a hand! I'm pretty happy how its turning out, but still has a long way to go :) I have the basic topology, added some more in order to get the knuckles and joints animation friendly. Now it's all about comparing to anatomy to get all the bumps and muscles right.
I've finally had some time to practice my modeling! Feels so good to be dabbling in Maya again :D I found these great tutorials on YouTube by James Taylor. He shows you how to build the human figure with low topology but still good for animation and proper anatomy!
So far I have the full body, next I'm going on to hands, feet and finally the head. For any of you other modelers reading this, any tips or suggestions would be fantastic! It's now coming up to a year being in the VFX industry and if there is one thing I learned...it is super easy to be lazy! Since you sit in a chair at a desk all day, it's really important to put in more effort to look after yourself! I didn't do so well at this during my last job and so as of right now I've made some big changes!
Now everyday I go for a half hour walk on my lunch break, I spend at least 20 minutes every 2 days doing exercise as well as taking on the "Dash Diet" to start eating healthier and get my weight under control. I have to say, after 2 days of eating differently I feel fantastic! I know it is really early in the game but still. I feel so much healthier and cleaner it is fantastic! I would recommend this to anyone wanting to lose a little weight and just make themselves healthier. You can check it out here: http://dashdiet.org/default.asp On top of that I've really gotten into sewing and making costumes! I've been creating up a storm over the last few months and have so many more costumes in the works. I managed to make some fantastic friends who I've convinced to partake in this crazy hobby with me. We completed our first group costumes and took part in Anime Revolution 2015 with great success! We had people stopping us about every 2 feet to get pictures, it felt fantastic! We have started a blog on our adventures which you can check out here: cosweplay.weebly.com I've been feeling so much more relaxed and less stressed I just think things are going to keep moving up from here :D |
